Florida - virtual post card

Here on my laptop in Destin, Florida. Catching some rays at the pool and the beach, ev en though it's not really hot enough yet to do a lot of swimming. The kids insure that every day I spend more than I planned on, but what else did I expect?

bracket crap

As usual, my brackets are crap. At least UCLA is still in it, I've got them in the pool. Spring Break is a couple of days away, and I'm looking forward to some sun. So I hope the weather cooperates.

March madness

Can't go without mentioning the NCAA tourney, the annual reason to take vacation days in the middle of March. I'm rooting for all underdogs, and also UCLA, my team in the pool. Just watched the Pacific - Boston College game, a great game that went to double-overime. It's no wonder this tournament is so popular.

Lack of blogging

My blogs have dropped off the radar recently, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I have been pretty busy with my tax "consulting". Secondly, football season is over, and the mid-term elections are still far-off. Plus, my traffic is so slow, I really only need to update once in a while anyway.
It looks like the port deal is dead, which to me was a lot of blather about nothing. If we were really worried about port security we would be checking more than 4-6% of the incoming containers, and wouldn't have let the Chinese run the port at Long Beach. At least the sudden interest in the security of our ports may help to focus our efforts on better protecting our ports from attack. The real problem is the economic vulnerability, and the terrorists are smart enough to figure that out.
I will soon take my first-ever actual spring break trip, taking the kids to Destin, Florida the last week of this month. Even though its only going to be a four day stay, the hope is to recharge the batteries and get out in the sun a little bit after the long winter, which sounds really good after three days of rain.
